CSSPML × Hong Kong Science Museum “ICH Lab Class: Journey into Golden Jewellery” Successfully Concluded

The Hong Kong Science Museum and the Chow Sang Sang Precious Metal Laboratory jointly organised the “Intangible Cultural Heritage Lab Class: Journey into Golden Jewellery” on 27 June 2026. The event received an enthusiastic response and attracted many members of the public. As part of Hong Kong ICH Month 2026, the workshop provided participants with a hands-on experience in jewellery making while introducing them to Hong Kong’s intangible cultural heritage.

During the workshop, instructors from the Assay Laboratory introduced the characteristics and properties of “Pure Gold” and “Karat Gold”, and guided participants in creating their own jewellery pieces while experiencing electroplating techniques. Participants actively engaged in the activities, asked questions, and gained a deeper understanding of jewellery craftsmanship and the science behind it.

Participants created their own unique jewellery pieces and experienced the charm of jewellery craftsmanship and electroplating technology firsthand.

The workshop concluded successfully in a joyful and lively atmosphere. Participants commented that the programme was both engaging and educational, helping them gain a better appreciation of jewellery craftsmanship while sparking their interest in the science of precious metals.

The Chow Sang Sang Precious Metal Laboratory will continue to collaborate with different organisations to organise similar activities in the future, with the aim of promoting science education and intangible cultural heritage, and encouraging the public to explore the world of precious metals and Hong Kong’s traditional craftsmanship.
